Neath Port Talbot Shopmobility

Set up in 1997, Neath Port Talbot Shopmobility Ltd is a Registered Charity Number 1068667 and a Company Limited by Guarantee Registered in Wales Number 03445091. We are a key strategic partner working closely with Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council.

Our objective is to assist people with mobility impairments, whether temporary or permanent to access the shopping centres and locality within the towns of Neath and Port Talbot. We are a “not for profit” organisation and all of our funding goes towards providing services for our users.

Rhigos Community Council

Rhigos is a small village on the saddle of higher ground between the Vale of Neath and the Cynon Valley. It was part of the old Neath Rural district Council under Glamorgan until 1974. The village then came under the jurisdiction of The Cynon Valley Borough which subsequently became Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales in 1996. It lies just off the old Aberdare road that was the main link between Aberdare and Glynneath, before the A465 road was extended in the 1960s. The hamlets of Cefn Rhigos and Cwm-Hwnt lie to the west of the main village.

Linkword Languages

Linkword Languages is an eCommerce site initially developed for Dr Michael Gruneberg in 2002. Linkword has been further developed and supported by Wired up Wales on an ongoing basis to date, including a complete redesign in September 2023.

ELWA Children

ELWAchildren, a part of ELWA hospital owned and operated by Serving In Mission (SIM) Liberia, cares for sick and malnourished children in Liberia. Our priority is to treat those from the poorest areas and the most vulnerable children, with a special focus on malnutrition, unwell newborns, children aged under five and staff development through the Emergency Triage, Assessment and Treatment (ETAT) plus training Liberia’s paediatric healthcare providers.

Thousands of children’s lives have been saved by this program, which now admits over 120 children to inpatient care monthly, in addition to treating over 1000 in the outpatient under 5 clinic.

The Butler Trust

The Butler Trust was set up in 1985 by former prison governor, Rev Peter Timms OBE, and Veronica Linklater, later Baroness Linklater of Butterstone.

We are named after Richard Austen Butler (RAB), later Lord Butler of Saffron Walden, and the Butler family have been closely involved with the Trust throughout.

As Home Secretary (from 1957 to 1962), RAB introduced a series of reforms to improve the management, care and rehabilitation of offenders. To further the scientific understanding of criminality, he set up the Home Office Research Unit, and helped set up the Cambridge Institute of Criminology. He also gave the go-ahead for Grendon, as the world’s first dedicated psychotherapeutic prison.

And the 1975 Butler Report (which RAB oversaw after leaving office) led to significant improvements in the management and care of offenders with a mental illness.

They Were There – Blood, Toil, Tears and Sweat

‘They Were There’ is the culmination of a remarkable thirty years project including over 80,000 miles of travel, visiting over 300 signatories who, between them, were personally present at almost every major event in the Allies pathway to victory in World War Two.

Each of these prints of Robert Taylor’s famous painting ‘Battle of Britain VC’ has been signed by hundreds of extraordinary men and women – 153 in all – was individually hand-signed in pencil – for Alan, and for service charities – over a period of 30 years by 306 truly extraordinary people. (Yes, that is 46,818 autographs in all, give or take).

They included at least 14 VCs, 3 GCs, 90 DSOs, 16 DSCs, 13 MCs, 99 DFCs (UK & US), a Medal of Honor, 8 Légions d’Honeur, 13 Croix de Guerre, one CIA Agency Seal Medal and much, much more. (To really get the picture, you’ll have to read some stories).

To commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Battle of Britain Day, twenty (20) of these historic prints are being released for the first time. Similar Editions, to Commemorate Armies, Navies, Civilians and Resistance, as well as Nationality Editions, are planned (Alan Pollock has reserved the few remaining for his family, friends and personal donations).

The CUV site was developed for the Community University of the Valleys partnership based in South Wales, UK. The primary purpose of the site is to distribute information regarding adult education opportunities throughout the South Wales Valleys.

The site features a searchable database application with an online administration console that is used by CUV to add material to the website themselves. It also has a password protected members area, mailing list and feedback survey. This site is also supported by Wired up Wales, with new content being sent by the client on a periodic basis, and then added to the site by Wired up Wales.
